IRS Hosting Webinar on Worker Classification on February 15th

One of the trickiest business issues for soccer Clubs and Associations is the classification of workers for federal and state tax purposes: employee or independent contractor. Some of WA Youth Soccer’s member organizations have been audited by federal and state tax agencies in the past few years, specifically because of questions surrounding paid coaches, referees, and administrators that are classified as independent contractors. In order to provide more information to small businesses on how to properly classify workers, the Internal Revenue Service will be hosting a free webinar on Worker Classification on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11am PST. Tell Your Volunteers About Possible Tax Deductions

By volunteering with recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations like our Associations and Districts (as well as some Clubs), certain expenses can be itemized as tax deductible on your federal income taxes. It might take a little more time and effort to fill out your tax return, but if you have the receipts and other documentation to support your itemized deductions, make sure to take advantage of this benefit of volunteering!
