The Importance of Soccer Goal Safety

Just a few weeks ago, a nine-year-old boy in North Carolina was killed when an unsecured goal fell on his head as he played soccer with his cousins after church. The field was at a mobile home park and no youth soccer organizations were involved, but this tragedy serves as a reminder for all coaches, volunteers, and youth soccer organizations to remind your members of proper placement and securing of portable and stationary soccer goals. Friday Freebies: Free Webinars on Child Abuse Prevention in Youth Sports

WA Youth Soccer takes risk management seriously – our players’ safety is our highest priority and we are always looking for resources to help our parents and volunteers create the safest environment for their children to enjoy soccer. With high-profile child abuse cases garnering media attention recently, our organizations have the opportunity and responsibility to learn how to prevent such tragedies from occurring and how to create clear policies for reporting abuse should they occur. IRS Releases New Search Tool for Charities

Last week, the Internal Revenue Service released a new search function for charity status of organizations. This is exciting news for tax-exempt charities (such as Clubs and Associations), as it will now become easier for consumers to verify if an organization is tax-exempt and if donations to the organization are tax-deductible. It will also be useful for foundations and other granting organizations to verify your organization’s status when you apply for grants. Continue reading
