WA Youth Soccer takes risk management seriously – our players’ safety is our highest priority and we are always looking for resources to help our parents and volunteers create the safest environment for their children to enjoy soccer. With high-profile child abuse cases garnering media attention recently, our organizations have the opportunity and responsibility to learn how to prevent such tragedies from occurring and how to create clear policies for reporting abuse should they occur.
The Positive Coaching Alliance and Kidpower will be hosting two FREE webinars in early February on how to fight abuse in youth sports. The first webinar on February 2nd is aimed towards coaches and other organization leaders; the second webinar on February 9th is for parents of youth athletes. Both webinars are at 6pm PST and are completely free – just make sure to sign up soon to secure your spot.
PCA Founder and CEO, Jim Thompson, will moderate a discussion with two experts in the field of child abuse prevention: Mike Town and Irene van der Zande. Mike is a former trial judge involved in many child advocacy cases, a youth sports coach, PCA workshop leader, and current law professor. Irene is the Founder and Executive Director of Kidpower, a global leader in personal safety and violence prevention, which trains youth leaders, parents, educators, and other caring adults in how to protect children from harm and empower them with skills.
Learn answers to questions such as:
- What should a coach do if she/he suspects child abuse by anyone?
- What can I teach kids about how to protect themselves from abuse?
- What can I say to parents and other coaches about our team’s stand on keeping kids safe from bullying, abuse, and other violence?
