Happy 2012! We’ve taken a break over the holiday season here at Set Plays, but we’re excited about the new year and all the resources we plan to bring to you. We hope you’ll share today’s post with the players and parents of your organizations that are considering college next year.
In October, we highlighted the work Eastside FC has invested in creating their College Coordinator position to give their players an inside look at the college recruiting process. Other WA Youth Soccer Clubs and Associations have implemented similar resource sections on their websites or hold meetings with players and families about college during the season.
For all of our players, regardless of level of play, it’s important for our organizations to support families looking for the best college funding resources. This January and February, College Goal Sunday will be hosting FREE events around Washington State for in-person education and help with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the form that is required to apply for federal financial assistance for higher education.
Benefits for College Goal Sunday attendees include:
- Receiving free, on-site help filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
- Opportunity to talk to financial aid professionals
- Learning how to apply for financial aid resources
- Additional information about state-wide student services, admission requirements and more

The program is also looking for volunteers to help at the events, so check out the website and volunteer to help more families get the financial aid they need to send their children to college.
College Goal Sunday is a program of the Northwest Education Loan Association (NELA), a not-for-profit student loan guarantor that administers the Federal Family Education Loan Program and guarantees payment of loans in the event of default.
